Silk Royal proudly presents "Serengeti," a collaboration between Philadelphia-based artist (and label manager) Jacob Henry and enigmatic international artist Coastal. In the Original Mix, an aggressive 4-4 beat with a reverberating snare kick the track off on a powerful note, while a variety of arp lines and tremolo'ed woosh effects fill out the soundscape. The energy of the tune is reinforced soon thereafter by a series of massive, multi-layered Oberheim pads. Yet, the central themes of the tune do not emerge until the main break: a variety of awe-inspiring African chant samples soaring above a roaring bassline progression. In the club-busting drop to follow, the bass is reinforced with an additional sub layer and the lead melody is spiced up with a more dynamic note variation.
On remix detail, Silk Royal is thrilled to welcome American progressive legend Noel Sanger, who has been serving up sophisticated peak-hour bombs to international audiences for the better part of two decades. Early on, Noel's interpretation demonstrates a "patience" that only a veteran hand could bring; specifically, the low-end is deconstructed and the mid-range elements of the original are only "teased" into the track. Yet, a dramatic shift occurs at the quarter turn, where a a mini-break yields a stunningly layered fusion of the lead and bass, which rivals (if not outshines) the climax of the Original Mix. This energy is sustained throughout the tune, and Sanger fans will be delighted to hear some of his signature synths ulilized in the latter half, further enhancing the almost mystical, shamanic vibes of the tune.
Finally, Coastal delivers a "rework" of the original mix -- essentially a more "balanced" (i.e. less club-oriented) take on the Original Mix. A lot of the main melodic motifs of the original are in much clearer focus here, including the vox samples and hypnotic arp lines.
